Dr. Jong was an avid paddler and marital artist growing up, and this developed into an interest in human performance and physiology. So, he started his university education by studying kinesiology which provided a variety of experiences ranging from working with orthotics and footwear, to shadowing physicians and surgeons in Ecuador. Through these opportunities, he settled on a career in medicine as the best way to combine his academic interest with an opportunity to give back and help others get on their feet.
He completed medical school and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of British Columbia, and went on to subspecialty training in two fellowships: Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University of Iowa in the United States, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Upper Extremity Reconstruction at the Pan Am Clinic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dr. Jong’s professional interests are shoulder, sports injury, and foot/ankle.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jong’s interests include martial arts (kendo and iaido), powerlifting, and travelling.
