Active Release Techniques®

Description

How we help

Active Release Technique (ART)® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. These problems all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped.

REferrals

No physician referrals are required.

Fees & Payment

Fees for ART® will usually be included as part of your massage treatment with Patrick Stiles.  There are a variety of times available for Massage therapy from 15 to 120 minutes at the clinic.  The exception would be if you just want ART® performed, please book a 30 min appointment only.

Benefits

Relieving tight muscles and trigger points can make a big difference in reducing joint stress and improving your overall quality of life.  It can help turn on muscles that have been turned off due to injury and eliminate muscular pain.

What to Expect

ART® involves very precise pressure and can be uncomfortable. It is a “dry” massage technique which means that no lotion is used.   Incorporating movement into therapy helps to determine where the root of the issue is and where to apply treatment.

It can work in as little as one session for some, though some people may need several treatments.

ART® should only be performed by a certified provider.
