While much of physiotherapy is rehabilitation from injury or illness, physiotherapists prefer to practice preventive health care. This approach lends itself well to encouraging healing and the reduction of pain.

Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals who combine in-depth knowledge of how the body works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and treat symptoms of illness, injury, or disability. If you have any of the following indications, you may benefit from physiotherapy:
Physiotherapy at Wellington Ortho & Rehab can be started with or without a referral from your physician. Some insurance plans require a doctor’s referral for you to be reimbursed. We recommend that you check with your workplace or insurer. WSIB and auto insurance companies do not require a doctor’s referral to pay for physiotherapy treatment.
Our clinic is a private clinic and fees are not covered under OHIP, however, physiotherapy services are generally covered by most extended health care benefit plans. The fee for an assessment by a physiotherapist is $110. Each subsequent treatment has a fee of $70. Direct billing is available for a number of extended health care plans. We accept payment by cash, cheque, debit, Mastercard, or Visa.
Depending on the type of injury, your first visit may take up to an hour.
Your physiotherapist will ask about your medical history and review your current condition. This is called an assessment. Any relevant tests will be performed to determine treatment goals specific to your particular needs. Based on your assessment, your physiotherapist will establish a diagnosis and work in partnership with you to develop an individualized treatment program and prognosis.
Your physiotherapy treatment program will almost always include a component of therapeutic exercises during and in between appointments. Your plan may also include educational information, manual therapy components (e.g. stretching), and modalities to reduce pain (shockwave/acupuncture).
The frequency of appointments, after your initial assessment, will depend on your condition and will be discussed at your first visit.
