Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment modality for those suffering from many joint and tendon disorders.  ESWT (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy) sends acoustic shock waves into bone or soft tissue, in effect re-injuring the area on a cellular level and breaking up the scarring that has penetrated tendons and ligaments.  The controlled re-injuring of tissue allows the body to regenerate blood vessels and bone cells.  The resulting revascularization leads to faster healing and often a return to pre-injury activity levels.  Shockwave Therapy is particularly effective at pain management and elimination.

Everyone with soft tissue injuries can benefit, particularly physically active individuals and athletes. Shockwave Therapy is used to treat many orthopedic conditions, including plantar fasciitis (heel spurs), patellar tendinitis (jumper’s knee), lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow) and shoulder tendinitis. Multiple studies have been conducted to assess the efficacy of shockwave therapy. Many have shown a positive response versus placebo treatment and others have shown no benefit over placebo. No studies have reported any significant side effects when utilized for orthopedic conditions.
